Got Milk – I Think I Will Pass

I have read somewhere a long time ago a certain story regarding milk. Now I’m not your usual conspiracy theorist but sometimes there is truth out there that maybe needs to be heard. It goes somewhat like this. Correct me if I’m wrong. During the WW II. America had to increase milk production due to the war efforts and to keep the soldiers healthy. So farmers would increase their production and the milk was shipped to the army bases to feed the soldiers. So after the war was finished they didn’t know what to do with all this milk. And some clever marketing head at some dairy had an idea to promote drinking milk for school children. So they would send all their surplus to schools, and grocery shops. All with an aggressive marketing campaign convincing parents that drinking milk was important for the little ones to thrive. And like that the dairy industry grew to what it is now.

To be honest, when I was small I just thought cows gave milk all the time. It never occurred in my mind to think what was necessary for animals to give milk. Maybe most of us didn’t want to open our eyes to all the suffering animals need to endure to give us a glass of milk that we take for granted. That we may be don’t even really need. Give us the facts

Cows on a dairy farm.
The reality of a dairy farm

It’s not like you see in the commercials. I will not try to describe the reality of a dairy farm. It is never my intention to leave my audience with bad images in their minds. I just want to say the cows are not happy grazing on some green field in the Swiss Alps. But if you think that your daily glass of milk is the number one source of calcium for the little ones. There you are mistaken. Some foods have even more calcium than milk. Take almonds for example. Drink almond milk. Too expensive you say. Then you have oat milk. fortified orange juice, tofu, soybeans, salmon, and sardine. Everyone can find something.

So how is it that only milk is promoted as the only and best source of calcium globally? And how is it on the other hand that more and more children are becoming lactose intolerant? As I say I’m not a conspiracy theorist. But I do like to use my common sense. And it’s telling me that we are not supposed to be drinking milk as adults. No other being on the planet is being fed with the milk of another species. Children when they reach a certain age should be able to get their necessary amounts of calcium from a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables. And not by giving them a glass of something that by the time it reaches the supermarkets has lost all similarity to milk.

The big picture

A glass of milk with cookies.
Drinking milk is a lifetime habit.

I’m not really into animal rights, to be honest. But I am very against animal cruelty. But what I strongly feel about is making food safe for everybody. So what you want is what you get. If you take a glass of water it will be exactly that in your hand. A glass of H20 and nothing else. No sugars, additives, colorings, and such nonsense. And if they manage for whatever reason to put it inside I want it to be clear what it is and what is the purpose.

So if we go back to the milk story it is full of the unknown. We don’t know what the cows are eating. Because biology 101 whatever the animal is eating will go straight to the milk. That goes for any kind of food supplements, medicines, and chemicals the poor animals are subject to. As I said cows nowadays don’t even see or step on a piece of grass ever. We don’t know how the milk is being processed but I do notice that it’s very very white in color.

The point of the story is. Milk is not the primary source of calcium anymore if it ever was. Don’t trust everything that is being sold to you by aggressive marketing. The welfare of your children and your health is in your hands. You make the choices based on your beliefs, goals, and opinions. Aggressive marketing should stay away and do better product research for a change. Use your common sense and from time to time reevaluate the tradition. Because trust me, the milk that was produced 50 years ago is not the same standard we are being sold today.
